THERE will be seven races at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on Saturday, 39th round of the Arima Race Club’s 2009 Season.
The feature attraction is the Stud Farm Association’s Breeders Stakes, which will be the third event on the programme with a post time of 2.20 p.m.
Spearheading the 12 Trinidad and Tobago-bred two-year-olds declared for the $100,000 contest is Grand Riviere, who prevailed by almost ten lengths in her only start a month ago and is the only winner involved.
The field for the 1,200-metre affair also includes Nad Al Sheba and Sweetie Jan, who finished second and third, respectively behind Grand Riviere on October 10, as well as two other bridesmaids. Inconclusive was runner-up to Treasure Hunt on October 24, while Defining Moment followed Royal Baby home in the first two races for West Indian-bred juveniles for the season, including the Nursery Stakes on October 3.
Also included are four debutants - Bluesinthenite, Dionysus, Zen Master and Pure Zip.
Santa Rosa Boy, who won this year’s Guineas -- first leg of the triple crown -- at odds of over 80/1, will come up against the likes of Music Maestro, Trust N Confidence and Filcher in a 1,200-metre Restricted Handicap to get things going at 1.05 p.m.
And former top apprentice Timmy Murray, who came back last Saturday with a third-place finisher after an absence of over 20 years, is booked to ride Vera Cruz and Victory Dance in the final two events.
Saturday is also Breeders’ Cup Day and all eight million-dollar races from Santa Anita Park, California, USA, will be seen via simulcast at Santa Rosa.
