England-based national swimmer Christian Homer shattered both the Open and 15-17 age group short course records in the 200 metre butterfly event at last weekend’s ASA South West Region Championships in Hutton Moor, Weston-super-Mare, England.
Homer, swimming for his Plymouth Leander team, won gold in the event with a 2:03.49 clocking.
This time surpassed the May 2009 15-17 record of Cadell Lyons of 2:09.16 and the November 1998 Sebastien Paddington open record of 2:05.55.
The decorated national age group athlete first broke the 15-17 record in the prelims in a time of 2:07.50, but dissatisfied with this feat went on to record the fastest time ever by a T&T athlete.
The prospective 2012 Olympian had creditable performances in the 200 metre individual medley, 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, and 50m backstroke.
In the 200 IM, he won silver in a personal best of 2:07.72.
His 58.25 clocking in the 100 fly was good enough for fourth place in that event.
The 100m (58.02) and 50m backstroke (26.80)Â medals were bronze and silver, respectively.
In August 2009, Homer had established eight new short course national records at the British Gas Swimming Grand Prix, at the John Charles Centre for Sport, in Leeds.
Homer returns home from his English camp on December 6, and is expected to compete for Blue Dolphins at the December 10-13 ASATT December Invitational, at Marlins Swim Pool.
