Local NGO, Is There Not A Cause? (ITNAC) is currently on a fund-raising drive to purchase a property to serve as a ’Transition House’. This house would provide temporary housing to people transitioning through challenging circumstances.
At present, a property has been loaned to ITNAC but it is full to capacity. According to one of the team leaders Avonelle Hector Joseph ’We meet people in the prisons who have made a change and need a place to stay, as a launching pad upon their release.
’We also encounter deportees and people who have reached the age to leave different institutions (like orphanages etc) and women in abusive situations. These people have no place to go.
’We want to provide more than food, clothes and assistance with acquiring a job’
The team is known for its ongoing work in Haiti but is also involved in a number of projects internationally and locally. At present they are constructing a Community Outreach facility in Carenage.
As part of its ongoing fund-raising efforts to acquire the property for the Transition House, the team would be hosting a dinner at The Hyatt Regency Hotel. The dinner would be held on Saturday November 7, 2009 at 7 p.m. The patron is Madam Justice Desiree Bernard of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).
A number of members of the legal fraternity would be in attendance. Tickets cost $800.00 and can be had by calling 742-1879 or 394-2042. Further information can also be received via email: firstsamue11729@yahoo.com
In addition to the Benefit Dinner, ITNAC would also be hosting a premiere of the movie Precious at MovieTowne on November 5, 2009 at 7.30 p.m.
Tickets for this event cost $125 and are available at Fangle Dangle on Roberts Street, Woodbrook, opposite Fine Art.
ITNAC looks forward to your patronage as they seek to make a difference one life at a time.
