When Karen Hunter then Karen Barrington, was running her boutique in Woodbrook several years ago, she never envisioned that she would one day be rubbing shoulders with the likes of such such celebrities as Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Prince and a host of other stars who to us are merely household names.
To Hunter though, most celebrities are people with whom she conducts business on her day to day manoeuvres as one of New York’s top publicists.
When Hunter, whose acquaintance I made many moons ago, visited the Express recently not only did I discover that she was still the same down to earth and charming individual I once knew, but that she could switch gears at a moments notice and become the consummate businesswoman.
This was apparent as I observed during a business conversation with her New York office. She tells writer Renee Cummings how a Trini girl does a balancing act with celebrity in New York City.
We love people who can write and Nicole Farrell fits snugly into that role.
This week she takes the serious topic of sexual harassment and gives it a tongue-in-cheek approach without edging out its seriousness or obvious implications.
And from Meiling’s 2010 collections to the women who are hell-bent on abstaining from sex before marriage I promise you Express Woman is a great read.
