Ria wins her fight
Former world boxing champion Ria Ramnarine made a successful return to the ring on Saturday night when she unanimously out-pointed American Denise Jacobs 68/66, 69/67, and 69/65 to win the Professional Pan American Flyweight Kickboxing title. The two women were featured as the main event in the kickboxing card billed as Fight Night XV, ’Return of the War-Ria’ which was promoted by Fine Line Fight Club at the Chaguanas Regional Indoor Sports Arena. Coming in at 108 lbs, Ramnarine was well below the weight limit while Jacobs struggled to make the 110lb limit on Friday at the weigh-in ceremony at the Jean Pierre Complex. Despite the weight disadvantage added to the fact that she has not been in the ring for over two years, Ramnarine displayed a calm disposition as she patiently outworked her opponent throughout their seven-round battle. Jacobs, currently ranked at number four in the world by the International Kickboxing Federation, came in for high praise from the newly crowned champion. Ramnarine described Jacobs as a tough and worthy opponent. Ramnarine’s performance also earned her the ’Kickboxer of the Night’ award. »
