‘1990’ enquiry specifics

With reference to the letter by Peter S Moralles appearing in yesterday’s Express, my recent call on the Government to pay compensation to the hostages involved in the 1990 coup attempt is, in fact, in support of a specific recommendation made by the recent commission of enquiry into that horrendous event.

I am not aware that a similar recommendation was made to compensate businessmen or others who ran up losses as a result of the subsequent looting and fires that ravaged Port of Spain in July 1990.

I would have no objection to such people being paid some sort of compensation as well. But my focus was/is on a specific recommendation made by the commission of enquiry report which, quite frankly, I think the Government should have already fulfilled.
