So he appears to be intent on pushing the envelope — without constitutional authority — with talk about the return of a "sanitised" Flying Squad. He has also come out publicly very strongly against the 21st Century Policing strategy — getting cops from behind the desks and to the streets. The problem for Mr Warner is that politicians do not have line authority over the police (thank God!). Only the Commissioner of Police has that power! So it will be very instructive to see how Jack handles this poisoned chalice that he has been handed.
