‘Appalling’ PoS mortuary
I was appalled to read in the Sunday Express of August 11 about the shocking state of the mortuary at the Port of Spain General Hospital in the letter headlined “PoS mortuary not fit for the dead” by David Roxborough. The people directly and indirectly responsible for running the mortuary should be mortified.
Does the mortuary have a manager? Why do grieving relatives of the dead have to face the mess Mr Roxborough described in his letter? Is the mortuary within the portfolio of Health Minister Fuad Khan? What about the Mayor of Port of Spain? Does anybody care? We have money for all sorts of things, from tall buildings to stadiums that no one uses to circus cricket in the Oval to fancy clothes and fancy cars and yet we store our dead in such savage conditions?
If even a quarter of what Mr Roxborough says is true something needs to be done about this situation.
Many homeowners say two places they take care to keep up to mark at all times are the kitchen and the toilet. The people in charge of our mortuaries should adopt that principle.
