At the mercy of the untouchables

Marguerite Gordon’s account on what transpired at  “Legal Affairs” (Express, January 13,) is a prime example of the attitude/culture encouraged by the various service commissions introduced by the learned framers of our Constitution.

These useless institutions have made it virtually impossible for civil servants (employees funded by taxpayers) to be disciplined and this has resulted in the sad state of affairs we now find ourselves in.

The sad and most telling fact is that no opposition, whether it be UNC, PNM, COP, TOP, MSJ will ever support changing this damning piece of legislation as it simply is not in their interest to do so.

Our history shows very clearly that Opposition parties are  only interested in regaining power and getting their hands on the Treasury and will not support any legislation, that requires a special majority, that will improve the lives of the citizens.

So, in short until we can make these relevant changes we can expect more of the same:

• A bloated, indisciplined ineffective civil service

• Ineffective security services

• Bloated, lethargic politicians.

I could go on and on but I think you get the picture, so until then continue living in hope and wishing the best for our children and grandchildren.
