Baptists, pannists must honour Albert Gomes

Prof Ramesh Deosaran gave a good history of Albert Gomes recently. But to quote him "why haven't the Baptist (Shouters) established some monument to mark the well known support he gave them in their days of trial and tribulation?" Not one breath from them up to this day. Maybe fashion has gone to their heads, instead of research. Maybe they are too young to know about him.

As regards the steelband fraternity, they too should create some mark of appreciation for Mr Gomes; Sterling Betancourt did outline his contribution; when everyone shunned them as hooligans Mr Gomes and Beryl Me Burnie praised them.

Why not name Belmont Park after Gomes? Or build a library where his father's shop once stood at the corner of Hinkson Lane and Norfolk Street, where he grew up.
