ToolsBe harsh on the homelessYet again we are hearing of moves to address the national vagrancy/ street dweller problem by the various authorities. Street dwellers usually fall into one of three categories: - drug addicts - the mentally ill - the socially or financially displaced Any plan to tackle this problem needs to be an all-encompassing plan. The reality is that for a person to become and survive as a street dweller they obviously can find the means to live off of the streets. It is a well known and obvious fact that the primary source of nutrition for street dwellers is via discarded food/garbage which is readily available in the capital city. To a much lesser extent are donated food items from various "charitable" organisations. The first step by the authorities should be the passing of a law that all garbage be properly and securely disposed of in a tamper proof manner. If possible garbage should be sprayed with some kind of bitter agent/dye to discourage consumption. Second, it should be unlawful to feed street dwellers. These measures may seem harsh but as any good pest control company will tell you the number one way to deter household pests from dwelling in your home is to remove their food source.
