Beyond freebies and quick fixes
Residents of East Port of Spain were finally given a voice when the PM held a meeting with them earlier this week. While I do commend the PM for making such an initiative I am worried that this further feeds the ‘gimme gimme’ disease that so many people in this country have contracted.
We all have basic needs that must be met but we also need to earn these things. Why have people lost value for earning success? We cannot continue to pressure the Government for freebies and quick fixes without making an effort as well to improve ourselves.
Let us learn from South and Central as these areas and their residents have long been neglected. However, they persevered until they built a comfortable life for themselves. This shows that once you have the will to achieve nothing can hold you back. The answer to change lies in our hands and our minds.
