COP, back to the drawing board
I write this letter to the leadership of the Congress of the People (COP). I am pleading with you—please find your way fast, as this country needs you to do that.
Understand what you bring to the People’s Partnership Government is significant. You need to work to figure out your internal dynamics as soon as possible.
Please recognise the fact that the Partnership, as a whole, is greater than the sum of its constituent parts.
The COP has to accept that at the height of its popularity, it could not gather a seat on its own. So, please, return to your strategy board and rediscover your niche. You had such a strong following in San Fernando West, Diego Martin and the East-West Corridor. Could you still count on that now?
We need a strong COP as part of the Government, or else all members will be seated in the audience rather than being players in the governance orchestra. Is that what the leadership of the COP really desires: to look on from the sidelines?
Reassess your position and begin to display the mature level of governance you preach. Once we have a multiparty contest during elections, there is only one winner. Do you want that for our country?
