Calypsonians, stop the shouting
I cannot help but notice a new trend in calypso where many of the new young budding calypsonians, in particular the young women, seem to think that they have to shout to get their point across.
While many of them have good natural voices, the shouting thing seems to be a trend. I wonder if any of them have ever had voice training.
The thing is, in spite of this, many of them made it to the Skinner Park semi-finals of the Calypso Monarch competition, so they would tend to believe that they are doing the right thing.
Another unfortunate development is that a lot of the calypsoes seem to be penned by the same writer as there are so many similarities in the style and topics, or is it that somebody is copying somebody?
What is also noticeable is the lack of humorous calypsoes being done in recent times by these young calypsonians of the future. Surely the writers can come up with some for them.
