I am pleased with the government's commitment to the children of our twin-island State. The Children's Bill currently up for debate seeks to protect children from all perceived threats, even from children themselves.
I am especially pleased with the clause on begging. For far too long unscrupulous parents/guardians have turned their children onto the streets to beg for spare change.
Once on the streets these poor children are open to various forms of physical and emotional abuse in addition to the abuse they receive at home.
Once this Bill has been passed, we, the law-abiding citizens, now must ensure the children among us receive the maximum benefits from it. The government must not bring this legislation into being in vain. Let us work together for the improvement of our society.
