Besides being shocked by the sudden removal of two of the veterans of the People’s National Movement (PNM) from the Senate, I was even more shocked at the way in which both Fitzgerald Hinds and Pennelope Beckles handled their dismissals.
Both of them were key members in the PNM’s development over the past ten years and took their sudden dismissal and also news of being replaced by political neophytes very calmly and committed their service and unwavering support for the party. There was no bad blood or threats of breakaway, but instead continued support for the PNM and also continued attempts to ensure the United National Congress (UNC) is removed from office.
This is so different from Jack Warner’s response or reaction. Instead of ensuring the UNC was strengthened against the PNM, he did everything possible to ensure the party for which he once pledged his love was weakened and, hence, suffered defeats at the PNM.
