ToolsDemocracy in dangerif we desire to protect our democracy the population needs to speak as one following the unprecedented act of the new Minister of National Security against the highway protesters. The first public act of the Minister was to interfere with the protesters. Was this an action in the interest of the nation or was it the opportunity to pay back the protesters? Where was the Commissioner of Police? Where was the Commander of the Defence Force? Were these officials' responsibilities usurped by the Minister? Where does the PM stand on this? Urgent attention is needed if the population is to go about its lawful activities without fear of intervention of the police and soldiers and ministers. The Minister has proved himself to be an "action man" as predicted by the PM but I question whether this is the expected or desired action. Ken George Palmiste |
