Don’t blame nature for human folly
WHAT caused the flooding in River Estate, Diego Martin, were the things that people do to bring ruin to themselves and other people. Many people are still removing trees from the hills, still building on river banks, still building low-capacity box drains, still washing concrete residue and other building materials into public drains, still paving land property ground surfaces, thus sealing the natural sponge that is the earth from absorbing water runoff.
People are still dumping their garbage, appliances and auto parts into rivers and large public drains, still building where land is known to flood.
They are still being lazy about cleaning all watercourses frequently and diligently. Building in a place called “River Estate” should be a hint as to what to expect when people disrespect building codes, good environmental management, environmental hygiene and waste disposal and normal tropical climate rainfall downpours heavily on the “river” estate.
Last year the banking and commercial retail sector was happy to give loans and sell Diego Martin flood victims replacements stocks. Yes, you again for business? Same time next year!
All this and more they do then they complain. They feel confident they can continue to do these things since the Met Office gives them an escape loop by blaming flooding after normal rainfall to “global warming” aka climate change or some ITCZ event or El Nino.
So the crap people do get safely rationalised out of the way of blame.
