Drivers, secure the children

We speak of the carnage on our roads and highways and the inconsiderate driving that prevails everywhere. However, more alarming to me is the absolute negligence of adults to minor passengers on board.

Over the past week I have seen no less than ten cases of children either not strapped in, standing in the rear seat, limbs being stuck through windows etc.

In one case the little girl was trying to touch passing vehicles whilst in slow-moving traffic. And worse, a father had his no more than five-year-old son standing, standing I said, between the passenger seat and dashboard and what's more the child had his hand stretched out onto the windscreen! I felt compelled to stop at a light and go to the father to have him secure his son.

As a mother and deeply concerned citizen, I am appealing to parents and all drivers, to please protect our little ones on the roadways.

As a country our modus operandi seems to be reactive as opposed to proactive. Let us not wait for more of our little ones to suffer the consequences of our stupidity and neglect.

I also hope that traffic wardens will be more observant and have an impact on this very frightening trend.
