ToolsExcellent health care at EWMSC—A beacon of lightMost of us know some unsung heroes in our midst diligently providing excellent service to the nation without expecting any rewards or praise. Following my own personal experiences, I take this opportunity to acknowledge, highlight and applaud the actions of one such group of people, the surgical and anaesthetic team based at the Eric William Medical Science Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope where I was recently hospitalised. Having surgery can be a traumatic and scary experience. However, the orthopaedic team imparted a sense of calm, confidence and true caring that made the entire experience a relatively comfortable one. The professionalism of the staff as they listened to my concerns, answered questions, patiently explained the scenario gave me a realistic expectation for the success of the operation. Their care and attention to the details of the task must be underscored. The post-operative care and follow up actions at the orthopaedic clinic also reflects an excellent system for proper assessment and evaluation of the results of the treatment. For all these, special thanks are due to the Orthopaedic team (Dr Young Pong, Dr Khan, Dr Goolan, Dr Beharry, Dr Gomez) and the Anaesthetic team (Dr Kernahan and others). The support staff whose names are too many to mention and nurse Annabelle are all my unsung heroes who get my sincere thanks and appreciation for making a difference.
