Focus on the Jack threat
Why are political commentators and analysts making a big deal out of their own misguided view that the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) is not yet a party because it fails to meet their concept of a party?
Why do they keep making an issue of the structure and processes in the ILP and its lack of a constitution to illustrate some point that it lacks credibility as an political organisation?
Jack Warner was a member of a cabinet and a government that is governed by a constitution and acts of Parliament. Did that stop him from doing whatever he wanted? How will a party constitution control him?
The PNM is the oldest, and most tested political party in the country, yet in this current political scenario, is unable to fire up the imagination of anyone outside of Balisier House, but good, bad or indifferent (mostly bad), Jack and the ILP are doing just that. What does that say for structure and organisation?
The UNC controls the other half of the political equation, and Jack chewed and spat out both the UNC and the PNM in the by-election.
The COP is singing in its own wake and it has a constitution.
There is no legal or constitutional standard to be met for persons to declare themselves a political party. It is whatever they say it is. Stop focusing on frivolous matters like the structure of Jack’s party and pay attention to threat that his return to the corridors of power presents.
