Forgive? Really?FAR too often religious officials are quoted as saying that wrongdoers must be forgiven. It is outrageous to observe that after a murder, the relatives and friends are told to forgive. Have these ministers completely run out of something to say? There is a time and place for everything. While people are hurting it is necessary to comfort them but a spade is a spade. The law will take its course but what hurting people need is counselling and support. They need to see that their right to justice is honoured. They need to see that there is appropriate punishment for crimes. Hurting people do not need to be made to feel guilty by being told they must forgive. Forgiveness will come into play when the time is right. Bill Major via e-mail |
