ToolsGive govt funds to deserving groupsIt would appear if you want to celebrate something, anything, just form yourself into some kind of organisation and declare a day of celebration, then tell any government that funds should be made available to keep this "part of our heritage" alive. I say this because some "cultural organisations" plan huge events, without any funds and under the pretext of "cultural tradition", and then demand millions from government to fund these events. Their requests are always in the millions, and when the funds are given and everyone has had a good time, we are told the "money was not enough" and there is never any accountability. It is time to put a stop to this giving away of taxpayers' dollars and focus on properly run organisations like the Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation, Family Planning, Blood Bank Association and others, who have been struggling over the years to do yeoman service with small subventions. The reality is that governments have been funding feteing with "big money" and the preservation of life with pittance. C Peters via e-mail |
