ToolsGopeesingh the bulldozerAs Dr Gopeesingh continue to bulldoze his way in having this Continuous Assessment Component (CAC) as part of SEA, parents must know that the SEA examination of 2013 will consist of mathematics (40 per cent), language arts (40 per cent) and CAC (20 per cent). Creative writing has been removed to make room for CAC. Creative writing has always been the subject area where the child is taught to express himself using good handwriting, good vocabulary and spelling skills. In addition he must be cogent, compelling and convincing in his thoughts, feelings and emotions. Since mathematics and language arts are subjects involving objective marking, creative writing on the other hand has a subjective scheme and was used as an academic tool to measure and evaluate students' creativity through writing and expression. Creativity is not an extra-curricular activity. The holistic development of the child should include all extra-curricular activities which ought not to be examinable but rather enjoyable. Parents must rise up and demand SEA remain in its previous academic form. Allowing CAC is adding water to the gravy which will henceforth bring about a society that is not knowledge-based. Knowledge ensures the continuance of civilisation. TTUTA is an after-thought whom no one consults. They are unable to protect us from this bulldozer who is hell bent into an intellectual land clearing exercise. Therefore parents must rise up or we reach. Amral Hosein Warrenville |
