It can become 'Hoop of Strife'

I would like to elaborate on the basketball competition which was recently concluded with the team from Laventille copping the first prize of $1,000,000.

I applaud the Government on this attempt at a solution to crime. Any right thinking citizen, though, can tell you that this is not the solution.

The Hoop of Life basketball competition is a great sporting idea but not a good social one.

At the end of the day most young people want jobs that allow them to take care of themselves and their families.

Not everyone can play basketball, so what is being put in place for them? A basketball team only needs five members on the court with a few substitutes on the side.

The village of Laventille is proud of what their team has accomplished but at the end of the day only the team benefited.

The bigger picture here is that people want sustainable jobs and not no seasonal competition where you have to wait on the competition to come around to get some finance.

The Government wants to bribe a certain part of the population with competitions while another section is getting all the good jobs through a lot of corrupt means.

Let's wake up and stop playing these foolish games with each other. This same Hoop of Life could end up being "Hoop of Strife"
