Laud the efforts of all our athletes

While we were privy to the final list of our Olympic athletes a week before they departed, I cannot help but feel somewhat disappointed at the way things are handled with respect to sports on the whole in T&T.

I'm not sure if there's regular documentation and updates of our athletes' preparation and any statistical information on performances over time. This to me enables someone reading about an athlete to understand what he/she has done in terms of accomplishing required times/distances for track and field and have specs for the various events.

It would be very useful in the event that an athlete reaches the final, breaks a record and possibly wins the event and an interview takes place.

Plus lots of people may not be familiar with what is required for each sporting discipline we may be contesting. So here we are, looking at Keshorn Walcott. I may say, "let me look up some info on him". Before August 11 many did not know of his achievements. There should be profiles set up of each athlete that can be reviewed by anyone wishing to read or even learn more about the athletes.

People in general should learn to appreciate the efforts of all the athletes who made it to the Olympics and applaud them even though they did not gain a medal.

Another thing is how the business aspect of it is handled. It hurts to say but from where I stand you are only loved as an athlete when you have "won" or "achieved" something and that's when the "business folks" want to be on that bandwagon. Trinbagonians, learn to love and appreciate our own. We'll benefit all round as a nation. I love my athletes a whole lot, do you? Well it's about time to do so.
