Lesson for T&TThe case below is a good example of how to deal with corruption. The offence committed by the MP had nothing to do with his parliamentary duties and occurred many years ago. It concerns charges against the British Secretary of State for the Environment, Chris Hulne, for perverting the course of justice. It seems he got his wife to take the rap for a speeding ticket he was issued with in 2003. Much money and manhours were spent on the probe which lasted several years. It looks like he will now be paying for his crime and it is unlikely that he will be able to return to a political career. It's an excellent example of how to deal with any of our politicians who are suspected of dabbling in corruption outside the political scenerio. If, however, our judiciary feel that they are unable to deal effectively with corruption matters, they could always refer the issue to the Privy Council. We now seem to be approaching them for advice on almost all legal matters. GA Marques via email |
