Let me register my disgust with an ‘X’
The article “Yearning to vote” by Michael Harris in the Express of Monday 21st October 2013 is a masterpiece.
Mr Harris has made a very strong case for the thousands who stay away from the polls, are disenfranchised and not able to register this strong feeling of disgust.
Like Mr Harris I voted once and that was for a National Joint Action Committee (NJAC) candidate in local government elections.
I knew the candidate and what he had done and was doing in the particular area. He was a community person.
Since my vote is sacred to me, I could cast it for someone on the basis of performance, even if I knew that he/she would not win.
I have a problem with “crapaud politics”, where I am expected to vote party, irrespective of the calibre of the candidate being proposed.
Mr Harris, I will certainly join you in your crusade of having a change to our electoral process for the inclusion of “None of the Above” on ballots.
