MAN OF THE MOMENT: President Anthony Carmona

Let's do it, Trinidad and Tobago!

Hearing the speech given by President Anthony Carmona at his inauguration warmed my heart as I looked and listened intently from my far away place here in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Not only was the warm sun shining through my window with the promise of spring nearby, but His Excellency's words, some of which I have used in quotations, warmed my heart with the promise that Trinidad and Tobago can reinvent itself as a place of "discipline, tolerance, and production''.

Those three standards are not new to Trinidad and Tobago, but they have just been pushed aside in the race to "individualism'', and need to be brought back into the forefront of our consciousness.

I beg each citizen to deliberate on those three important words so that each one can be a part of the solution to bring back good old Trinidad and Tobago, the Trinidad and Tobago all felt safe in, the one where everyone worked hard and took "personal responsibility" to live in the right way and do the right thing because it is the right thing to do", the Trinidad and Tobago where people lived as one.

Where else in the world would the same individual celebrate Divali, Eid and Christmas? What a unique place, Trinidad and Tobago! We all love Trinidad and Tobago, and it is not just the Carnival, the steelband, the roti or the doubles.

It is the people, the beautiful people who are warm, charismatic, entrepreneurial, inventive and more. It is time to envision a brighter tomorrow, not theoretically, but by the practical choices made daily to consciously exercise citizenship in one of the greatest nations on earth.

His Excellency has laid out ideals to help the nation reset.

Let's do it!
