Limit security on Grand Stand stage

THIS is an open letter to the Carnival bandleaders.

Dear bandleaders, I was in T&T for Carnival after an absence of ten years. I was excited to see all the developments and especially to show my young adult children, the spectacular Carnival and the costumes and parades that are put on by the likes of Tribe, Bliss, Island People—to name a few major ones.

Especially on Tuesday, it was an annoying experience sitting in the Grand Stand after having paid almost TT$300 per ticket. It was not an enjoyable spectator-friendly experience. Here's why. First of all I wondered why the excess band security presence on stage? I understand that many of the bands include security as part of their package to ensure masqueraders play freely and in a safe environment on the streets. But to have them on stage with ropes blocking the view for the spectators, was annoying.

Secondly your sound systems on wheels are really impressive but it seems you have little regard for noise levels. I measured (on my decibel app for smartphones) on average 85 DB (above 60 is deemed unhealthy for your ears!)

The trucks blared the same tune for the respective groups. this year it was SuperBlue's "Fantastic Friday'' but the noise level was unbearable!

bandleaders, you are putting on a fantastic show and hundreds of hours going into making it an enjoyable fete for your players, but please do try to look at it from the tourists and spectators point of view to limit the security on stage and please turn down the volume!

Otherwise, thanks for a splendid show!
