Make it nice for designated drivers

Here is an idea that I recall was successfully implemented elsewhere, an idea that our bars and nightclubs could consider.

What if patrons were encouraged to designate a driver, and identify this person to the manager/head bartender. This designated driver would be entitled to complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, cutters and coffee. The offer would be only eligible for groups of patrons purchasing alcoholic beverages.

This surely is a win-win situation for all. Patrons could imbibe alcohol comfortably knowing they will be driven by a sober driver. The designated driver would be well “watered” and fed without any expense to them.

Bars and restaurants will already know the actual cost for these “comps” is a minuscule investment for a much larger return.

The police would not have to be diverted from crime-fighting to deal with the administering of breathalyser tests and accidents caused by drunk driving.

The hospitals would not have to attend to the badly injured from drunk driving accidents, but instead would be focusing on attending to more serious health cases. Families would have the peace of mind, knowing their loved ones will return home safely after a night out.
