ToolsMake roads safeIn the Sunday Express of June 17 ("Teen dies in highway crash"), another life gone to waste for no reason! This country with so much money wasted in every possible way, this country with so many smart people, this country with the technology and know-how, is not doing anything to effectively protect the drivers on our roads. Yes, the roads are unsafely engineered and yes, the drivers drink and drive at excessive speed but why does a country with so much resources stand back and let this happen over and over again? Yes, they will say that they do this and that and the other — but the number of martyrs continues to grow. What a waste of life! Who is accountable for this senseless waste? How many will never be blessed to become fathers? How many children have lost parents? So many cry instead of being able to celebrate? So many are sentenced to mourn and weep. This must stop! Why build more highways that will become death traps. I challenge the Government to stop the new highway and instead direct the funds towards making existing roads safe. Carl Applegate San Fernando |
