Medals or not, thank you all

I REFER to Anthony Milne's letter, "Time for Bovell to retire, move on" (Sunday Express, August 5).

Mr Milne, what is your professional expertise in the world of swimming? Shall I assume that you're just another ignorant and self-opinionated Trini?

Apparently George Bovell's unfortunate placing in the Olympic final left you depressed. I'm no doctor but if you are going to get that depressed over a race, then you have some serious issues.

Also, you went on and on about his beard…. Why he had one, why he decided to shave it, why he decided to skip the 100m backstroke. Why, why, why…. I never knew such a thing could bother a person so much. Leave that to Mr Bovell and his coach.

George Bovell is a world class athlete and deserves a lot more than the time you wasted in penning such an insulting letter. Bovell has done our country proud. Whatever he decides to do it's his decision, not yours. If he wants to go to the 2016 Olympics, then good for him because would be quite a feat to even make it and that alone would be something to be proud of.

No matter where our athletes place, be proud of them. They have worked hard, trained hard and sacrificed a lot in order to represent us. Most us cannot even dream of such a thing.

To all Trinidad and Tobago athletes, thank you for doing your best and thank you for representing us. No matter what happens at the games, you have made us proud!

Mr Milne, what have you done for T&T lately?
