Minister needs time to deliver

A nation’s security policy/strategy and the full implementation of such cannot fully be appraised overnight.

New Minister of National Security, Mr Gary Griffith, has indicated he plans to roll out many new initiatives to combat the escalating crime problem, utilising many new technologies and policies.

Many minsters came and many ministers went, and each brought their unique perspectives on fighting crime. Some were great; others, not so much. But in none of these past scenarios, was the initiative condemned and critiqued before it was fully rolled out and implemented.

Our Prime Minister, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, as the leader of our Government, specifically chose to appoint him as National Security Minister for a reason. She even recently stated she believes he is doing the best he can with limited capacity and resources at his disposal.

I believe Minister Griffith has the right attitude, and I expect him to bring his expertise and capabilities to the table, especially from him being a past military officer.

I believe, in fighting crime especially in our country, with these hardened criminals, only time will properly tell any plan’s efficiency. So let us wait and see what the minister has up his sleeves to combat these criminals. He may very well have the right solutions for the current problems.
