No end in sight to airport fiasco
Shortly after the current airport facility was opened in 1999, I was in an immigration line with one of the main sub-contractors on the project.
This individual told me in no uncertain terms that the entire project was worth $600 million but was costing the taxpayer $1.6 billion.
Both of the above figures were subsequently proven to be correct, amounting to a $1 billion swindle of the T&T taxpayer on this single project.
The judicial authorities in Florida took swift action against those American citizens involved and charged, convicted and sentenced these perpetrators in quick time. They also requested extradition of their T&T colleagues to Florida to face real justice there.
As we know, due to a comedy of errors, which some say were calculated, those accused locally were never extradited and are now totally free to go about their business.
Will this madness ever end or is the last honest person leaving T&T going to have to bring the flag with them?
