Open those gates, close those doors
I refer to the letter by K Phillip in the Express of October 21 regarding the President’s guards/drivers.
I too was a victim of their reckless driving on the night of October 15 after the football game at the Hasely Crawford Stadium between our Soca Warriors and New Zealand. After the game the President’s entourage (which numbered about seven vehicles) was trying to exit the stadium from the big gate leading to the road west of the stadium, the same gate they came in from. During the game that gate was locked and either the key or the person with the key was nowhere to be found, which caused some anxiety to the people leaving the stadium.
Not for the life of me do I understand why is it that after any function at the stadium these gates (the one to the west and one to east near the Lions Civic Centre) are not opened so as to allow free flow to both patrons in vehicles and on foot to exit without all this congestion that always takes place.
To add to this congestion the President’s entourage was trying to make their way amongst 10,000 patrons leaving the stadium and driving like they have a free way of passage with their car doors open in this crowd. I was hit by one of those doors. There was no hurry on the President’s part as he had his window down and was waving and speaking to the people as he passed.
Like K Phillip I am hoping that the goodly President reads these letters and has a kind word to his aides, security detail etc, about their reckless driving.
