Our own big bang

I have been very quietly awaiting the coming of the new year and hoping that with some prayers it would be a new dawn for our nation, but just browsing through the newspapers, I can't help but think that we started the new year just as we ended the old one—with a bang – in more ways than one.

Shootings and fireworks—plenty bang there and still nothing being done about it—discrepancies in autopsies on a dead soldier—one saying strangulation another saying asthma attack—really?

Bail for a mom who abandoned a baby, and a "smartwoman'' who allegedly stole millions of dollars from innocent people.

Now the EMA is looking to amend noise pollution laws—at last one positive move for the new year so far. But with carnival coming all will be forgotten or put aside for the next five weeks and then it's back to the same old shame old.
