Probe T&T consulate in NY

I would like to highlight the problems Trinidad and Tobago nationals face when trying to get their passport in New York City, USA.

I applied for my passport renewal at the Trinidad consulate in New York  and  they keep giving me the runaround.

Since the end of August, I applied for my passport. I received a call from  someone at the embassy on December 5 but the caller did not leave a message.

Yesterday the person who called from the embassy was telling me I need to redo an affidavit showing the correct date I was married in New York. She said the affidavit has the wrong date.

First of all they have seen the original plus they have a copy of my marriage certificate. There should be no reason for me to do over an affidavit.

This consulate is a money-making scheme so people have to keep coming back and pay at least $US40 for an affidavit. Plus they accept affidavits only from a few people on a list they give you.

An investigation needs to be done about the practices at this embassy.  I’ve sent countless e-mails and called and yet not once were my e-mails and  phone messages acknowledged.

It’s very unfair how we nationals abroad keep getting the runaround for every little thing.

It was 100 per cent easier to get a new US passport than getting a renewed Trinidad passport.
