Protect Miguel SolomonThis is an open letter to Commissioner of Police, Dwayne Gibbs. On January 28, Jonathan Sanchez, 25, was killed one block from his home at Mausica Road in D'Abadie. According to the police, Jonathan, along with Miguel Solomon, 14, robbed a man of cash and other valuables in Arima around 4 a.m. One hour later, they were confronted by the police. It was reported in the print media that Jonathan seized a fallen police pistol and was killed as he attempted to shoot at the officers. This certainly is not what transpired early on that fateful Saturday morning. Two police officers in civilian clothes, along with the "robbery victim", were waiting in an unmarked vehicle for the two "bandits". Jonathan was shot in the back and fell into the Mausica River. As he ran for his life, the police shot him again from atop the bridge. There was no robbery. The "victim", a one-time friend, was relieved of his BlackBerry because he was indebted to Jonathan and refused to honour his indebtedness. Being the sole witness to this shooting by an officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Miguel Solomon's life is certainly in danger. I urge you to obtain a statement from him before he becomes the next victim of criminality in T&T. Ishmael Samad via e-mail |
