Sad day for crime-fighting
The only thing more frightening than the pictures of local gangsters brandishing army-calibre, high-powered automatic rifles is the surprised response of the acting Police Commissioner.
Exactly what business is this gentleman in? Imagine for a moment if the CEO of US corporation Apple Inc admitted he is unaware of the availability of the new smartphone recently launched by his competitor Samsung. He would be laughed out of office.
But seriously, folks, this hapless response from our acting top cop to the visual evidence of the proliferation of high-powered weaponry on the streets of Trindiad and Tobago has caused a tidal wave of sadness to come over me. My face is bathed in tears for our once-beloved country.
At this stage, a rational, critical-thinking individual can only conclude that our criminals are much more effective at what they do than our protective services.
So good luck to new National Security Minister Gary Griffith. You have a mountain to climb.
