Spence, the enlightened

In the daily hustle of life so far away from home, I initially missed the news of Prof John Spence's departure from this life. I am, however, aware of the immense scholarship and perseverance of such a great and important person who belonged to us, but for such a long time was patently ignored and certainly never received the national acclaim he deserved.

I would be delighted if someone could reprint his Express articles, not only for the edification of those among us who regarded his work only with a passing glance, but also as a tribute to this enlightened individual who has now passed from our midst.
