The monsters we have created

 We have monsters among us!

These monsters are our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers and other family members. We have birthed them, raised them, educated them and alienated them. Unlike the fairy tales of our childhood, we cannot recognise these monsters by looking at them, or even talking with them. They are mainly recognised by their actions, and are known to only a few. They rob, rape, perpetrate violence on us, and ultimately they kill us. This generation of monsters differs from any previous incarnation by their numbers and degree of heartlessness that we see, hear of, and experience.

When it takes the murder of children to raise our ire, as it should, we have become desensitised by the current state of affairs. We have fallen very far from yesterday’s “sweet, sweet, Trinidad!” I am sorry and sad, and grieve for the children who have lost their lives; and those children who lost their way..
