The true powers of teachers
THIS is an open letter to Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) official Devanand Sinanan Sir, you want ideal conditions for teachers, and what about our children?
Train these teachers to smile with our children. They’re always angry.
Enlighten them that the taxes of these children’s parents pay their salaries.
Advise them that corporal punishment is against the law.
Chastise them for demanding funds every month from us for items that the MOE should supply.
Hand-deliver to each of them a copy of the following by Haim Ginott: The difference a teacher can make
I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates this climate.
As a teacher, I possess the tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.
