The mess we have created

I would like to congratulate Dwayne Gibbs and Jack Ewatski for handing in their resignations after being humiliated by educated men who should know better.

Ramesh Deosaran made disparaging remarks about Dr Gibbs shortly after his appointment as PSC chairman and before he even settled into the job or had a fair chance to evaluate his performance. Then he went on to publicly conduct a performance evaluation and subjected the gentlemen to public scrutiny and humiliation.

Nowhere in the developed world would anyone be subjected to such scrutiny or performance evaluation after one year in office. Then we had Mr Warner. As soon as he took the office of National security, he also went on a tirade to humiliate the Commissioner of Police who tried against tremendous odds to fix a broken and corrupt police service where illegal guns could be stored in the ceilings of police stations.

What took ten years to destroy under the PNM, Dr Gibbs was expected to clean up and improve the delivery of service, all in two years' time. How unrealistic were those expectations with no modern day equipment, poor communication in police vehicles, so unlike the way it is in developed countries from whence they came, and poor policing attitudes in a corrupt service?

However, congratulations to Dr Gibbs and Mr Ewatski for making such wise decisions to leave the shores of T&T. Leave us to live in the mess we created. We like it so and thanks for all your efforts, 21st century policing will be a thing of the past as we continue to live in a crime-ridden country!
