ToolsThe way forward for our countryAsk anyone born in the 60s and 70s. They can remember the tail end of the paradise that was T&T. What changed? What happened to us? I'll tell you; we lost respect for ourselves, we started letting other cultures dictate our values, we ignored our elders and forgot that they went through what we went through before us. The acquisition of a dollar by any means became our god. Everyone put a price on their integrity and values...as a nation we took our lead from a country that had become a corporation. The entities that are monster corporations have the rights that human beings should have and people are only important at election time. It's all a game. There was a time when we had compassion and would help when help was needed. Now you can't even get the attention of someone in authority without going to Ian Alleyne with your plight. Here's what I suggest. Wake your consciousness now. Speak the truth, do what's right, help another who needs it...to the governments present and to come — restore the respect of the public servants; these were the respectable members of the community when I was growing up, the people you turned to for a recommendation when you needed a job...the policeman and fireman and prison officer who would give the boys on the block a friendly word of advice from time to time they had our respect ...we are moving too fast. Maybe we need to take it in retrospect for a moment to see if we can fix ourselves...Let's think. D Canning via e-mail |
