ToolsThis is a September to rememberIt was a hot August with temperatures of 34-plus Celsius and severe rainstorms in the northwest that created mayhem. Hills came tumbling moving everything in their paths and drains and rivers overflowed their banks, washing away people and vehicles. It was also the 50th anniversary of our Independence, fetes, fireworks, parades and lofty speeches, no one was paying attention. The Cabinet was active, a tunnel was being dug as a route of escape for influential party people to avoid facing prosecution, Remember, a minister wanted to build a tunnel to Maracas beach well one was being dug below the Hall of Justice. In the middle of Independence celebrations, a bill was proclaimed that would have opened the tunnel allowing escape possible with only the State to pay for wrongful arrests and prosecution actions that would put the justice system in gridlock for the next three years. It was real espionage—better than the Bourne Trilogy, Robert Ludlum would be praising the developers of this plot, it seemed flawless. However, in planning to do evil, evil things happen and the press began printing the facts of the day. All hell broke loose, blames flew in all directions, all of us at fault, some parliamentarians were accused of sleeping on the job. The wagons were circled, Parliament was called in haste to repeal the proclamation but the damage is done. At this point the show was supposed to finish, but chapters were missing. The proclamation became effective on August 30, 2012, the next was August 31, 2012 (Independence day) the following days were Saturday and Sunday. "Weekend" by Monday, lawyers both foreign and local, some SC, were before the courts with petitions seeking freedom from further prosecution for their clients using the August 30 proclamation as witness. It is a political cesspool and we just cannot move on, the play was not a monologue, there was a supporting cast who helped the main actor, he should not fall on the sword alone. Many more are just as guilty. We will always remember this September, it was the month of subterfuge. Hezron Vialva Penal |
