Time for higher standards of behaviour
As a true Trini, I would enjoy and follow enthusiastically the light picong and jokes that accompanied the campaign trail during the lead-up to elections. But as a true Trini, I am ashamed to see the depths to which our leaders have descended.
Political meetings are about trashing someone from another political party.
What example is being set by the those in positions of leadership?
This is especially directed to those who seek to represent the people of this country. There is need for a code of conduct that will be one of the major requirements of a political aspirant. This code of conduct must be applicable to all aspects of the life of the candidate.
At political meetings and rallies, we do not want a regurgitation of all the negative actions of other parties (we live here and we know all that), we want people who respect themselves and others and demonstrate this by their behaviour so that we can in turn respect them.
We want to know what plans your party has for the country and how these plans will be executed and in what time-frame, we want to hear about the people on your platform and their accomplishments relative to your manifesto.
We want to know that when we go the polls we are confident that our X is next to the right person for the job, and that this action will be for a better future for the people.
If you plant honesty, you will reap trust
If you plant goodness, you will reap
If you plant humility, you will reap
If you plant perseverance, you will
If you plant consideration, you will
If you plant hard work, you will
If you plant forgiveness, you will
So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later.
