Top up with prayer

“Buckle up fass bass, dem police looking for tap up”, was the expressive refrain from a taxi-driver in Georgetown, Guyana last Friday as we lurched off from Bourda market in his ancient Datsun 120Y.

The next day I returned to T&T where the PM was leading the nation in a week of prayer and I can’t stop thinking about the connection between the two situations.

When you are doing the honest and transparent things on a consistent basis you can top up those activities with prayer and hope the Almighty is listening. However, when you are the leader of an organisation in which many senior functionaries are consistently involved in dubious and clandestine practices on an ongoing basis, then what is the value of prayer to such an organisation?
