Venezuelans should apologise for rig incident

With the recent re-election of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela a spate of articles, commentaries and editorials have appeared, all couched in very diplomatic language and all hoping for a change in the Venezuelan efforts and/or attitude to an agreement for the production of the shared oil/gas discoveries off south Trinidad.

The recent incident involvment the encroachment of an armed Venezuelan vessel into Trinidad waters highlights the total disdain they have for us. That they were aware of the co-ordinates of the rig to know that it was in T&T waters shows that they already knew that the rig was legitimately placed or else why did they leave without causing a further problem.

This action calls for a full apology from theVenezuelan authorities/government and compensation to the rig owners, the workers and the country for the deliberate invasion of our territory.
