Water wasting

I live on Caura Road in El Dorado, Tunapuna.

Over the last seven weeks, there has been a steady leak from a WASA valve pit in front of our homes at the La Couroupita Housing community.

We, the residents, have reported the leak 14 times over the last six weeks.....to no avail. Now, the water leakage rate has grown steadily. Hundreds of thousands of litres of clean, treated drinking water are pouring down the drain.

It is a terrible loss to the taxpayers. One or two weeks would be a valve problem; but seven weeks smells of a systemic asset management breakdown. Almost three weeks ago, I had a chance meeting with two WASA officers near the UWI gate. I told them about the leak; they laughed and said: "Tell the Minister!" They left.

No country–no matter how wealthy–can afford this reckless waste of money and water resources. Will someone in authority please do something.
